Version 0.5 PRE-RELEASE
Version 0.5 Pre-release for Playtesting!
Voyager: Tactics, Version 0.5 is out for review and reading! It's still a ways away from a playable state, but this should be an early preview into a lot of the new mechanics and concepts that have made their way here, so that you know what to expect!
Feel free to download this prerelease version and drop your feedback and thoughts in our Discord server! Do note that some content like Ventures are missing and will be added back into the full release of V0.5.
Rough Changelog
A more comprehensive changelog will be out on the full V0.5 release, but here's a quick list of the main changes:
Spheres
Your stats are your "Spheres": attributes that embody certain personalities or outlooks. Your Voyager starts with two Spheres at character creation; these can be two of the same Sphere, or one from two different Spheres.
Using actions that align to your Sphere can give you additional dice for that action.
Action System
The Action system has been reworked from the Loadout system. As covered in previous Devlogs, actions have 3 Action Points (AP) that can be spent to perform actions of differing durations and impact. This can be used to also react to enemy and ally actions, creating a fairly freeform, initiative-light system.
Resolve and Break system
Reworked health in the form of Resolve and Break. You have multiple bars of Resolve, each represented by a series of Break bars. Every time your Resolve is reduced to 0 or you Break (from powerful attacks and status effects), you lose one Break bar and your Resolve resets. Once all your Resolve and Break is depleted, you KO.
Brave & Break
Revised dice mechanic: You roll a single dice for an action, with varying results based on the result against an enemy's roll. Higher is success and lower is failure, but matching the opposed roll causes a Brave action, which can activate special weapon effects and abilities, like perfect parries and additional actions. These Brave actions are also used to Break enemies. Bonus dice gives you more chances to succeed or roll a Brave.
Revised Ventures
Ventures have been simplified to a short list of abilities, called Core Trainings. Each Venture can then branch into Paths (subclasses essentially) that specialise into certain playstyles, provided you meet that Path's Sphere requirement.
Expanded Factions
Factions have expanded options for starting equipment and Simulacra (relics), all with very simple descriptions but significant impact over your Voyager's playstyle and your adventures.
There are also a few new Factions:
- The Travelling Tower, a centre for mages and arcane study
- The Dust Faction has been split into the Alliance Clans, a collection of feudal family clans, and the Ruin Chasers, a decentralised collective of treasure hunters.
Expected Content
Version 0.5 is expected to have:
- About 300+ pages of content
- At least 60 relics and 60 equipment across 12 Factions
- Up to 20 or more playable Ventures, having up to 1-3 different Paths each
- At least 13 playable Sapients each with at least 4 different Traits you can choose at character creation
- A detailed grid map where you can easily set and roll for your adventures - with more detailed regions and landmarks in the future.
- A list of premade Voyagers called Recruits that you can hire and make parties with!
See you in the next big update!

NOTE: There's been a repeated thing on Page 43 that repeats the Resolve and Break info, but has the wrong info, saying 50 Resolve instead of 20. The one that says 20 is the correct one!
I'd re-export the PDF but it keeps crashing on me at the moment, so far now do be informed while reading!
