VERSION 0.5 RELEASE
Voyager: Tactics | Version 0.7 » Devlog
Version 0.5 of Voyager: Tactics is out now!
This has been a lot of work and I'm glad to finally have it out for you all! There has been way too many changes between 0.4 and now to note down, so assume that this is practically a new system. A summary of the new stuff:
- All-new page layout. Smaller, more manageable PDF size. Coloured headers with banners for ease of navigation.
- Revised action resolution system, using the Action Die Duration system. Detailed rules covering reactions and the 10 Actions. All actions can be used during narrative play but also have specific combat applications like Dodge, Block and Parry.
- Resolve and Break bars: two health bars used to track normal damage, divided into Break thresholds that can be destroyed through status Conditions and reaction combos.
- Brave system where your die roll matching an opposing roll creates a Brave action, which is much like a Critical. Break the enemy using Brave actions and enter Flow, gaining a free action.
- Exploration rules to manage your Voyages, from a timeslot system to West Marches style implementation. Includes a simple hex map of the Known World you can use in your campaign.
- Visages: godlike manifestations of myth that may watch over your Voyage, granting your party boons and curses during battle.
- The 13-odd Ventures have been streamlined into currently 7 Ventures - each branching off into specific subclasses called Specialisations.
- Equipment have been folded into Faction-specific lists, each with their own unique effects that trigger from Brave actions. Randomly bestowed, Faction-specific Relics which your party can encounter and bring along to gain unique buffs on each Voyage.
- Recruits: Preset characters that are actual, present characters in the setting, whom your group can recruit and play as whenever your main party is recovering or in danger.
- GM foe creation guide: A modular step-by-step process to create foes using simple templates like Frontline, Backline, Elite, etc. Enemies are grouped into Tiers of power - instead of three enemy statblocks for a baby, adult and elder dragon, you would simply decide the foe's Tier, which lets them access a lineup of abilities.
- New art, including artwork from artists besides me, wow!
- And more!
Do check the PDF out, even if it's just to look at the art and layout. And do share it with your game group or fellow players! The game is this much nearer to completion but that's why we need players and testers now more than ever. My next goal is to start work on condensing this entire rulebook into a much simpler Quickstart to make it easier for your group to pick up and play.
