Mancer Roadmap Update
Hey all! Thanks for continuing to support Mancer's development. Some quick updates:
Mancer Roadmap Update
A lot of my time lately was spent on Mancer's companion visual novel, along with other tabletop projects. That time informed me a lot about how I wanted to continue tweaking the MANCER RPG moving forward, so it's best I inform you all while it's still in the works.
As mentioned in the last post, I intend to have MANCER RPG depart further from its Lancer-esque roots towards more streamlined mechanics, as well as just combining more of my own preferences in game design.
I've been working a lot on my other major tabletop project, Voyager (mainly posting sporadic updates on Discord), and the way it's going, it seems quite likely at the pace I'm developing it, I might fold both Voyager and MANCER into a single system, which is the main system I'll likely be using for any future projects too - similar to how GILA RPG uses his original LUMEN engine for most of his games, or Free League with their Year Zero Engine.
Will still need to playtest it properly as it's still on paper, but some general points of the system:
- A d6 die pool for resolving most actions
- Lots of visual aids in the form of reference cards for weapons, abilities, etc.
- Abilities (i.e. spells) are grouped into major category "domains", not too dissimilar from Daggerheart
- Two "energy/mana" resources in combat: one for active abilities and one for reactions
- Still centers around combat on a battlemap, though distances are slightly abstracted/simplified - I want to allocate more of the player's mental budget towards things like ability interaction & ally synergies instead
These changes will be tested and published on Voyager first in the form of a version update, hopefully by the end of the week. If that version goes well without any major issues, expect to see those changes make their way to Mancer in turn!
As always, thank you for the support, and I hope the next Mancer update, despite (or because of) these changes, can still meet your expectations!

Well I'll have to take a look at Voyager, see what's changed.
Thanks for checking it out!
I took a look and I'm curious to see how it influences Mancer. I admit that when I saw your notes on how it would shift a part of me was bummed because "Lancer, only you play a sexy mage in a skintight leotard" was a big selling point for me, but I can see how its DNA got into Voyager still. I'm curious about how the Drive and Focus gain rate felt in playtesting
Completely understand. Unfortunately with the amount of conversion and system mastery needed, a lot of the time and effort would be better spent using a ground-up system I knew well instead. We're still playtesting it!
Yeah, I looked at Voyager and I'm vibing with what's there so far. Looking forward to seeing how Mancer shapes up.
