V0.415 Update || 3 New Ventures, Deeper Sapient Customisation & Enemy Creation!

A new version of Voyager: Tactics is out! As always, your feedback is welcome through comments here, or by joining our Discord server.

Initially, more content was planned, namely several new Ventures, but given how long they were taking to ideate, I wanted to get whatever content was ready out to you all first, especially when there were some features that would be far more beneficial in your hands now, namely the enemy creation guide (more info below).

General Changes

  • All Ventures have been rearranged in order of their Roles, i.e. all Strikers are grouped together, then Vanguards, etc.
  • Field Medic's Resuscitate is now Upcast-able. Needed some extra power given how short its range is.
  • Gamblade has been moved from the Striker role to the Valiant role. Upon inspection, while initially conceived as a DPS role, their ability to manipulate their Action Dice makes them more versatile fighters more befitting the Valiant role instead.
  • Additional art for Phytosapien Xylolith, Orzlaty and Dracheans

New Ventures

Three new Ventures have been added: the Armiger, Assassin and Invoker. These new inclusions were made to fill the niche of reflecting more common archetypal RPG classes, so that new players have a more familiar point of entry into Voyager: Tactics' setting through these Ventures.

Armiger (Vanguard)

The Armiger is the equivalent of the knight or paladin, with a smattering of the 4E Warlord. They are effective frontline fighters, using teamwide auras centred on them to buff allies and debuff enemies. The Armiger you play does not need to be a heavily-armoured knight; rather, they can represent any sort of honourable, noble fighter, like a fencer or heroic swordsman.

Assassin (Striker)

The assassin is a sneaky infiltrator, who is the equivalent of the rogue or ninja -- however, the Assassin is very much focused flavour and mechanics-wise on taking out enemies over thievery. They have consistently high single-target damage potential, and ways to condition their body to better survive, given you'll likely be operating quite far from the rest of your allies due to your ability to occupy key positions early and isolate targets.

Invoker (Watcher)

The invoker is the equivalent of the warlock or summoner, who calls a manifestation of a figure from mythology or fiction into battle (think of a Persona user and you pretty much got it). They focus on wide areas of effect, using a summon called an Exemplar to wreak havoc, provoking foes into attacking it and synchronising attacks with you. Also includes a few rollable tables to help decide your Exemplar's origin, its personality and the object you summon it through!

Sapient Features

The Sapient chapter has been expanded and reshuffled a fair bit. Each major Sapient now has a list of Traits that you choose during character creation. This is meant to open up character options for more creative PC ideas.

Using the Ruaya as an example, they previously all had waterbreathing and aquatic movement by default. Now, you can choose those options from a list, alongside other traits like having a tortoise shell, far-jumping frog legs, and secreting venom!

Reworked Skill Resolution

There has been repeated cases of confusion regarding how Skills are resolved, so we'll be experimenting with a simplified method to make it easier to understand. Now, Skills are FIXED to the dice value you assign to them; they cannot be improved or trained into higher die increments, similar to how Action Dice work. No more rerolls or tracking each the improvement of DARE, LORE, SENSE etc. separately.

While this does sacrifice a sense of progression with your character, treat it more as a general picture of your Voyager's skillset -- would they be more proficient with matters of physical activity (DARE) or of the mind (LORE)? This plays more into the impression that your character embodies a certain "thing" that they gravitate towards, whether it be social interactions or daring feats.

Enemy Creation Guide

A short guide has been added at the end of the document, detailing some tips about building enemies and encounters. A full list of enemies is intended for the full release.

Thank you for your continued support!
